Design and Layout:

The Explorer magazine is produced annually at Alamance Community College to showcase the writing skills of the current students, faculty, and staff. The Advertising and Graphic Design Department works together to oversee and create the artwork, layout and design for the magazine.

Each year, the students are also asked to submit a cover design for the magazine. We create our individual artwork digitally, and the staff then selects the cover which they feel best meets their vision for the magazine. In 2018, my design was chosen as The Explorer magazine cover.

Our class was divided into three teams for this project:

•  Photography
•  Illustration
•  Page Layout

I was team leader of the Page Layout team. It was our responsibility to be sure all the artwork and photography was submitted on time, and to place the stories, information and images in a pleasing manner. We worked closely with the Editor to be sure the layout, grammar and punctuation were finished by the deadline.

Our team chose to use elements from the cover illustration on the pages throughout the publication to continue the theme, and maintain cohesion.
